YouChange Participated in Flood Relief in Chongqing

From 8PM May 5 to 10AM May 6, 2010, Pengshui County of Chongqing was hit by a rainstorm, leading to severe losses. YouChange volunteers immediately contacted Poverty Alleviation and Development Office, Education Committee and Civil Affairs Bureau of Pengshui County to identify the losses and needs after the disaster hit. On May 14, YouChange Flood Relief Volunteers Group in Chongqing visited effected towns and submitted a project proposal of disaster relief to YouChange headquarters before it was approved. At the same time, it contacted the Fosun Group who agreed to transfer some funds for drought relief in other places to flood relief in Pengshui. On May 18, YouChange Flood Relief Project Team purchased urea and compound fertilizer for the restoration of the victims’ livelihood, as well as badly-needed pumps, ropes, raincoats and flashlights for flood relief. On the morning of May 23, YouChange donated these materials to Xintian township government of Pengshui County and awarded it "YouChange-Pengshui Reserves for Flood Relief".
